The Beginning

Today is the day I start a blog!  I'm not a baker and I'm not a writer but I'm gonna try my hand at both and see where it leads me.  I might give up next week or I might get hit by the the baking bug and get more and more addicted...I hope it's the latter.

The only thing that worries me is that when I read other good blogs, they entertain.  The writer always seems to be an incredibly interesting, well travelled witty person.  I'm none of the above unfortunately, as I'm what you call a crazy workaholic!  Partly because that's the way I'm made, and partly, no actually mostly, because I run an online business that has been something akin to taming a monster!

The idea was to be able to do something I love, be wonderfully creative, work the hours I choose to work, take weekends off, and above all, enjoy lots and lots of money. Not for material gain but because in my mind money equals freedom.  But unfortunately since running a business 'freedom' has not been something I've been able to enjoy that much!

The reality is I work 24/7, doing endless boring paper work. I can only think about doing something creative and working every weekend is a fact of life. I do turnover lots of money, but, unfortunately there's a big difference between turning over money and what you actually receive at the end of it. This basically means I rarely see any of it!

I'm in a cyclic existence (have been for the past 15 years) believing that I simply just need to work harder and harder and it will eventually get easier and pay off. But it doesn't!  The workload just gets bigger and heavier.  Have you ever climbed a mountain and just as you think you are getting closer to the top, another great peak looms over you and you feel like throwing yourself to the floor.

Okay, well I'm beginning to sound very dramatic but that's the reality of running a business.  The truth is though I do love it and couldn't do anything else.  So that's it. I'm not really complaining but just desperately need to allow myself a fun diversion.

I've just discovered a wonderful magazine "Cupcake Heaven" which is published quarterly, each issue has loads of fun recipes for each Season.   I've bought the Summer issue.  I do get incredibly excited when I see pictures of cupcakes! I could quite happily spend all day on Pinterest browsing these scrummy little temptations and I mean all day!

I've decided to try my hand at the Rose cupcakes first because they are so pretty and I was intrigued to find out what rose flavoured cake tastes like.
